Apartment AG: Reimagining Multigenerational Living

A Seamless Blend of Tradition, Contemporary Style, and Functional Innovation Shapes a Home that Embraces Multiple Generations with Personality and Purpose.

Apartment AG, located in The Camellias in Gurgaon, offers a fresh perspective on multigenerational living. This 9,400-square-foot residence doesn’t just house three generations- it celebrates their diverse personalities through an innovative, adaptable design that defies the conventional family home. Rather than simplifying the tastes and preferences of each individual, the design merges contemporary and eclectic elements, creating spaces that encourage both unity and individuality.

Transitioning from a spacious villa to a more compartmentalized apartment posed its own set of challenges, particularly around adaptability. This became the focal point of the design: spaces that could evolve to meet the varying needs of the family- grandparents, parents, and younger generations alike. The design team focused on breaking down traditional boundaries, opting for a horizontal layout that fosters flexibility and connection.

Upon entering, the foyer sets the tone with a dynamic glass partition that creates a sense of openness while maintaining intimacy. A stunning artwork by Manjunath Kamath greets visitors, further enhancing the welcoming vibe. The living area, a vibrant blend of bespoke furniture and textured elements, flows seamlessly into the home bar, which serves as both a functional and artistic statement. The centerpiece- a raw quarried stone monolith- adds rugged character and blends perfectly with metal and glass details, creating a space that adapts to both casual and celebratory moments.

The bar’s striking design is complemented by warm lighting and a backlit Patagonia stone backdrop, which transforms the space into a dramatic focal point. A mix of minimalist design and maximalist textures- ranging from a patterned rug to custom-designed wooden furnishings- adds a tactile richness to the atmosphere.

In the private quarters, the design team skillfully addresses the diverse needs of the family. Three distinct bedrooms reflect the younger generation’s personalities, while the parents’ suite embraces comfort and understated luxury. Each room is a carefully crafted blend of materials, from suede upholstery to textured stone, creating a harmonious balance between style and function.

The grandparents’ room is a thoughtful design response to accessibility, featuring easy access to family dining and staff quarters, ensuring both comfort and care. Every detail, from the powder rooms to the public areas, is treated as an opportunity to explore the beauty of textures, from the rawness of stone to the subtle elegance of backlit onyx.

One of the most striking aspects of Apartment AG is how it weaves together the family’s heritage with modern design. Traditional paintings and ancestral artwork add a sense of history and personal connection, creating an eclectic yet grounded environment. Apartment AG is not just a home, but a testament to how thoughtful design can accommodate multiple generations, blending history with modernity and functionality with beauty. This eclectic home proves that when done right, the melding of different visions can create a cohesive, family-centered haven.
