Curves, Materiality, and Detail

Designed by Rajkumar Architects, Casa Arco is a private residence where heritage-inspired motifs are interpreted through contemporary planning and finishes.

Set
within the royal fabric of Jaipur, this bungalow is conceived as a contemporary residence informed by Persian and Boho influences, interpreted through a controlled architectural and interior language. Luxury here is articulated through proportion, material continuity, and spatial sequencing rather than overt excess, resulting in a home that balances visual richness with functional clarity.

The
planning process began with a clear spatial challenge. The linear proportions of the plot risked producing narrow, corridor-like interiors. This was resolved through strategic zoning, calibrated shifts in volume, and the insertion of architectural pauses. Arches, partitions, and carefully positioned focal elements introduce depth and rhythm, ensuring that movement through the house feels expansive and layered rather than constrained.

The
façade establishes the project’s design intent. Curved boundary walls, arched window openings, and softened geometries temper the massing, while a restrained palette of exposed brick, beige finishes, and full-body tiles ensures durability and visual coherence. Classic mouldings and cornice details lend composure to the elevation, while black accents provide contrast and definition. The interplay of texture and tone results in a façade that is expressive yet measured.

Landscape
elements guide the transition from exterior to interior. A manicured approach sequence leads to a paved foyer punctuated by circular window openings, reinforcing the project’s curved vocabulary. Internally, the residence is organised across three levels. The ground floor accommodates the primary living areas and kitchen, supporting daily use and social interaction. The upper levels are reserved for private spaces, with the master suite on the first floor and the sons’ bedrooms occupying the second, each interpreted through a distinct yet related aesthetic.

The
main living area functions as the spatial and visual anchor of the home. Ornate wall and ceiling detailing, including carved motifs and cornice treatments, introduces a sense of heritage within a contemporary framework. Built-in shelving detailed with geometric borders houses curated décor, while soft pastel furnishings offset the neutral base palette. Boho textures and handcrafted elements soften the formality, allowing the space to remain both luxurious and approachable.

Adjacent
spaces continue this layered narrative. The puja area is conceived as a serene enclave, defined by white marble surfaces and carved wooden columns. Natural light is used as a design element, creating a softly illuminated spiritual zone without reliance on artificial ornamentation. A dedicated entertainment area introduces a fabric mural as a focal surface, complemented by Persian-inspired pendant lights, brass wall sconces, and indirect lighting strategies that enhance depth and warmth.

Private
spaces are designed to prioritise comfort and visual calm. The primary bedroom features a contemporary canopy bed as its focal point, supported by detailed wall panelling incorporating Indian motifs in subdued tones. Subtle zoning is achieved through furniture placement and metal partitions, allowing areas for rest and recreation to coexist. Material choices — layered flooring, warm wood finishes, and soft textiles — reinforce the sense of retreat.

Walk-
in wardrobes and bathrooms extend the design language with a focus on usability and refinement. Cane-and-glass shutter systems with decorative motifs introduce texture, while marble-clad bathrooms with brass-accented vanities and warm lighting create a spa-like atmosphere without visual excess.

Overall,
the residence represents a calibrated synthesis of cultural reference and contemporary living. By translating Persian and regional influences into controlled architectural gestures and material choices, the home achieves a balanced identity — rooted in heritage, yet firmly aligned with present-day lifestyles.
