Designed by architectural design studio, La Nony FAMILI, the McPherson Residence is nestled in the scenic Lac-Brome region of Quebec’s Eastern Townships.
Intrigued by the expansive Mid-century inspired design of this residence, featuring clean lines, simple volumes, and floor-to-ceiling wooden windows, the clients entrusted La Nony FAMILI with the task of revitalizing its interior. Experienced in both renovations and new constructions, the design team at La Nony FAMILI embraced the challenge of focusing primarily on decoration and furnishing for this project, with significant renovations required for the bathrooms and kitchen.
Staying true to their unique design philosophy, the agency drew inspiration from the architectural elements of the existing structure to define the project’s core principles. Embracing a modernist style characterized by minimalism, functionality, a mix of straight lines and curves, and a play of contrasting colors and textures.
To accentuate the windows and strengthen the connection with the breathtaking natural surroundings, the exterior walls were painted in light hues, creating a stark contrast with the warm wood tones and cozy interior decor. Crafting a distinctive and unified ambiance, La Nony FAMILI custom-designed most of the furniture, integrating generous storage solutions without overcrowding the space. Complementing these pieces are carefully selected furnishings and accessories from reputable Canadian manufacturers like Perez Furniture, alongside lighting fixtures from Anony and Luminaires Authentik.
In an eco-conscious approach, the kitchen retained its appliances and cabinets, with only the facades and countertops receiving updates. The addition of custom oversized handles, a new island, and a mosaic wall brought a fresh look to this space.
Utilizing American cherry, a locally sourced wood species rarely seen in furniture, added a unique touch to the living areas with its rich reddish-brown tones, while walnut was chosen for more intimate spaces for its elegance and depth, elevating the overall refinement of the design.
The McPherson Residence pays homage to the timeless modern style of the mid-20th century, embracing its essence through meticulous interventions and thoughtful material and form considerations. La Nony FAMILI has transformed this space into a chic, functional, and inviting home that captures the essence of mid-century charm.
