A residential complex that extends the concept of a ‘home’ beyond the four walls
Surya Signature Housing, situated in Patna, Bihar, is a groundbreaking residential complex that reimagines the concept of experiential living. Developed by Design Forum International, this unique project spans 4.8 acres and consists of 452 dwelling units, along with a wide range of amenities. Aimed at architects, interior designers, and design enthusiasts, this article explores the innovative design philosophy, integrated amenities, and the overall experience offered by Surya Signature Housing.
Designing a holistic campus was at the forefront of Design Forum International’s approach. The team aimed to create a sense of community and connectivity, with amenities and open spaces seamlessly connected through pedestrian-friendly pathways. The first tower, a mixed-use structure, features commercial activity on the first three floors, while the remaining floors house spacious 4-BHK tenements. The rest of the campus comprises three and four-bedroom homes, as well as a dedicated tower for EWS housing. Meticulous stilt-level planning ensures that public spaces and amenities are interspersed throughout the site, creating a harmonious living environment.
Upon entering Surya Signature Housing, residents and visitors are greeted by a serene water body and lush greens at the entrance plaza. This space serves as a symbolic reminder to disconnect from the outside world and immerse oneself in the tranquil experience that awaits. The plaza seamlessly connects to drop-off points located at the entrance lobbies of each tower, ensuring a peripheral vehicular network and minimizing traffic within the campus. The introduction of ramps near the entrances enhances accessibility and promotes walkability, catering to residents of all age groups.
The design philosophy of Surya Signature Housing draws inspiration from the five natural elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. These elements are represented through various provisions and amenities found within the complex. A state-of-the-art clubhouse, banquet hall, gym, sports courts, swimming pool, lounge, and play zones further enhance the experiential living concept, fostering a sense of community and belongingness. The swimming pool, positioned at the rear end of the housing complex, is surrounded by cabanas and decks, providing residents with a serene space to relax and unwind.
Emphasizing both functionality and comfort, the project features thoughtfully designed, Vastu-friendly tenements. Each tower includes dedicated refuge areas and mitigation measures such as accessible evacuation paths and a central open area. Ground floor apartments, known as “Garden Villas,” feature covered verandas that double as terrace gardens for the residences on the first floor. Generously designed balconies incorporate sit-outs, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. Additionally, larger terraces between the residential blocks serve as decks for select apartments, adding an organic touch to the site’s aesthetics.
Tower 1, located at the forefront of the campus, is a premium tower that houses only eighteen 4-BHK units. With two units planned in each wing, every apartment enjoys panoramic views on all four sides. Duplex penthouses occupy the apex of each tower, epitomizing luxury and sophistication. The project effortlessly combines tangible elements of luxury with sensitive design choices. Spacious parking in naturally lit basements caters to the needs of the 14-storey residential towers.
Surya Signature Housing encapsulates the belief that a “home” is an experience that extends beyond the physical structure.
