Circus Canteen: Culinary Art Meets Environmental Creativity

Designed by Bangalore based design firm Multitude Of Sins, ‘Circus Canteen’ a farm-to-table bistro designed by stands as a shining example of creative upcycling that is anything but boring.

Circus Canteen a sustainable farm-to-table bistro designed by Bangalore based design firm ‘Multitude of Sins’ has been conceived with a strong emphasis on unconventionality. Every element, from surface finishes, custom lighting, and art installations to furniture, has been thoughtfully selected from a city-wide waste donation drive, with most treasures salvaged from markets and dumping yards, constituting less than 10% of newly sourced materials. The design harmonises perfectly with the canteen’s name – the circus, an exhilarating event where troupe members craft a truly extraordinary spectacle.

Embraced by the artistic community of Bangalore Creative Circus, this venue embodies unbridled creative expression, evident in its vibrant hues, textures, and bespoke upcycled installations. Each table offers a transformative experience, ensuring that discarded materials assume a reimagined, sculptural presence fused with functionality.

The entrance features a series of arches crafted from scrap metal bathed in a lively teal hue. The passageway is adorned with grunge chandeliers made from bike chains and metal filings, flanked by upcycled vehicle headlights serving as luminaires. The overarching flooring is a collage of discarded display samples, meticulously assembled in a Tetris-inspired fashion. A patchwork collage of discarded wallpaper swatches creates a captivating backdrop for the food counter, infusing it with a dynamic interplay of color and pattern. The central collage wall is an eclectic mix of e-waste, sanitary fixtures, and discarded furniture, forming a whimsical mosaic of discarded materials.

The project serves as a beacon for an urgent environmental message while maintaining an artistic identity that resonates with its patrons. It is a space that embraces misfits, where oddities find their place serendipitously!
